To celebrate the launch of our new website, we want to showcase some new writing – resources, poetry, fiction, commentary or anything else – prioritising the voices of people who traditionally don’t get given as much space in our movement.
This includes (but is definitely not limited to) street based workers, brothel workers, migrant workers, sex working parents, workers of colour and trans workers, as well as those who occupy many of these identities. If you feel that this describes you, we want to hear from you!
We want to commission 12 pieces of writing, which will be paid at a rate of £200 – to apply, please fill in this form by Tuesday 7th May 2024, 5pm. We’ll then collectively pick the 12 that resonate with us the most. At this stage, we’re NOT asking you to submit finished work, just proposals.
This is available to current or on-a-break sex workers, of any gender. It is not limited to people in the UK, however on a practical level it is very difficult for us to make payment into a non-UK bank account, so we’d need to discuss alternatives if this isn’t something you have.
You can write about anything you want – it doesn’t have to be based around your identity, but it does have to contribute something to the sex worker rights movement and our community. However, this is a pretty broad remit – so feel free to be creative. Ideally, the work would be something new, or at least not previously published elsewhere.
We don’t have a specific minimum or maximum word count in mind – if you’re successful in your application, we’ll discuss this with you!
